Here is the Archive Video of the One Peoples Roundtable Discussion from Monday August 24, 2015

Monday night I had a discussion with Sue Rhoades, from Adventures into Sovereignty and formerly a member of The ITNJ American Team.   Sue and I discussed various aspects of what took place over the past two months within the ITNJ and the reasons behind her resignation.

More importantly, we discussed how we move forward and create a new foundation to build solutions that are not based on the current system of corruption, control and fraud.  Creating actual NEW changes and NEW beginnings for THE PEOPLE- ALL the people.  This conversation was a brilliant look into the old vs where the new needs to lead, with a focus on solutions.... and it has opened the door to a new Untangled Gathering Conference that will focus on Food and Farming and bringing people together to help and heal.  I am very excited about where this can lead....

Lisa Harrison will be back on the One Peoples Roundtable Discussion this Monday.

Vegetable garden update clip

A bit of a catch up on how the patch is going now we are coming to the end of summer.. Many of the plants are doing well but we are still having  few issues with nematodes & grasshopper attacks in the patch..
While cleaning out a few beds I found one that was extremely hydrophobic..  Below is a link that explains what hydrophobic soils are..
http://geography.swansea.ac.uk/hydrophobicity/soil_hydrophobicity.htm
Was an easy fix that involved a bag of composted horse manure & a garden fork with the rain well & truly re hydrating the soil mix in the bed..

Hope to finish cleaning out the beds tomorrow & sowing some seeds later on in the day..

For more regular updates on the patch come visit us at http://www.facebook.com/Bitsouttheback

Hope all are well & happy..
Have a great one..

So I figured the first meeting of the Humboldt Microcontrollers Group (which was tonight, May 15, 2014) would be a pretty quiet one, likely just Nick and me, maybe one or two others.

It turned out that instead of two or three people, we ended up with nine people participating in the kick-off meeting for the group! If we have nine people, or more, show up at the biweekly meetings (next one is May 29, put it on your calendar), well have to figure out a bigger meeting area. But having lots of people show up is a good problem...

Tonights meeting was mostly a meet-and-greet, finding out what each persons experience with electronics was (if any) and what will make it worthwhile for them to participate in some, most or all of the groups future meetings. The interests ranged from just learning about microcontrollers and how to make one do simple things, all the way up to making a tracking mechanism for a radio telescope.

For the May 29 meeting, the current plan is to start out with a short discussion and demo on one of the topics covered in the 4th Jeremy Blum Arduino video tutorial. We wont repeat what is done in the video, but Nick will pick one topic from the video, and hell go a little more in-depth about that, or show and explain some aspect of the topic that Jeremy didnt include in the video.

After Nick does a short show and tell, well split up into a learner group and an advanced group. The learner group will discuss the topics and exercises in the 4th video, and make sure all the learners are up to speed on that, then go back over anything in the first three videos that people might not have had a chance to ask questions about tonight. Nick will facilitate the advanced group in working on a project or designing a future project, or hell come up with some other way to get the advanced microcontroller people learning, teaching or just having fun making something with microcontrollers.

Update on the composting systems

Its been now 9 months that the indoor worm composting experiment has started. During these 6 months the small Styrofoam (very) mini box grew to a slightly bigger composting crate, then expanded into a soy sauce bucket for the Bronx Writing Academy, and 3 (very) mini worm bin. All of that, in an apartment, with no odour, escapees or inconvenience.
In 9 months, 50 kg (110lbs) of food scraps, 16kg (35 lbs) of paper-cardboard and wood dust (dry weight) have been diverted from landfills and transformed on 20 kg (44 lbs) of compost.

We actually do not put all the food waste into the composting system, as it may be too small to process all of our food scraps, so we take the remaining food waste to the farmers market, where it is collected and composted by GrowNYC. Close to none of our food waste ends up in landfills.
Food waste in the landfill when "washed down" with rain, can pollute the water in the surrounding, costing in treatment to make it safely drinkable. Food in landfills also produces CO2, CH4, NO2 and other greenhouse gases. It is important to note that CH4 and NO2 a much more potent greenhouse gases. While composting - worm composting- will emit C02 as well, and may emit other greenhouse gases, it is emitting less of the CH4 and N02 - if the compost bin is kept aerobic - which is the case as worm are tunneling though, keeping space for air to circulate.
The compost progressively changed aspect, as I have used compressed wood chips in the bedding, and the wood chip do take much longer to degrade. I think it also may have rendered the compost tea less rich, as the compost tea powered hydroponics has shown some deficiencies recently. Another thing I have noticed, is that with the heat of the summer, in a non air conditioned apartment, is that the food scraps heat up quite a lot after addition, which has lead to a dryer compost coming out of the bottom. It also may have reduced the overall worm population. So I have been able to put less food scraps lately, as the input seem not to be transformed as fast. I also recently stopped putting the food scraps in our old food processor to see if it heats up less.
Overall, the compost from the composting bucket for the school is much (very much) wetter, even with numerous holes. It is also darker than the compost form the home composting bucket. In the school bucket, no (or very little) compressed wood chip are used in the bedding, only paper and cardboard is used.

The Madaya Crisis Media LIES Propaganda

And so it continues....

Im not surprised.  I mean.... we know that the media is lying to us continuously.  And yet what does shock me, is the constant perpetuation of these lies as "truth" and "fact" by so many people.  How is it that people are STILL falling for these outright lies?  How is it that people are still spreading these "memes" without even questioning their authenticity?

.... Im seriously gob smacked by this.

Backtrack:  Suddenly, appearing out of seemingly no where, the western Media is reporting on the "critical" situation in the Syrian town of Madaya.  Thousands of people are starving, hundreds are dying..... all being caused by the Syrian Government- because "Assads Military" have closed off the town and set siege to it, and are deliberately starving the people and killing them......

Right.  So lets look at this, shall we?   "They" used social media to spread their outright lies and propaganda, and it takes off  like wildfire.   People are posting pictures of the "Starving" little girl, the man on the street, starving to death, the young man screaming for food...... and of course theyre all labeled as happening in Madaya, to promote the Western propaganda against the Assad regime.

And yet again, all of these pictures have been proven to be lies.  Even more to the point, its been proven that its not the Assad Military that has laid siege to the town, but the "Moderate Opposition" Rebels!!!   These US & NATO funded, trained and armed "Moderate Opposition Rebels" are holding the town hostage, stealing the food that has been delivered by the UN and Red Crescent agencies and SELLING it to the people in Madaya at horrifically inflated prices- like $85 per kilo of RICE!!!

My number one rule about social media:  If something is "going viral" there is a very good chance that its propaganda- so go look for the background story and the spin. So far this rule has been dead on the money about 95% of the time.

The moment social media began running with this "Madaya is Starving" meme I immediately smelled a rat, and it took almost no time to find and a whole lot of people were smelling the same rat and digging up the proof that, yet again, the media was lying.

(Ive been dealing with a house fully of head colds and excess snot for the past 10 days.... so Im a bit late on posting this info, but it is what it is, lol.)

Here are a few of the pieces of Photo evidence:

Lies Lies Lies.   Its the usual story:  The media picks a photo to use to push their current agenda, (apparently without every checking to see if that photo has been used before, lol- or maybe they just think were that stupid that we wont catch them.) (even though we always do!- seriously, whos the stupid one here?), and then then make sure it goes viral through social media.

The "Starving girl in Madaya" is actually Healthy and Happy in Lebanon.

The "Starving man laying in the street of Madaya" is actually a drug addict in Europe from 2009....

And yet the public are still falling for the same lies, time after time. The Question is WHY?  These major media outlets- like the BBC - have been caught doing this OVER & OVER & OVER again.  yet they are never held accountable in any way, by anyone, and the public just keeps sucking it up.

Remember this story:

Or how about the Moroccan woman who had her picture splashed across the media globally as "Paris Suicide Bomber"?

American News agencies ran with the story.... but never a retraction.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/11/19/woman-who-blew-herself-up-in-paris-raid-had-been-under-police-surveillance-in.html

Her picture was spread by media all over the world, yet when she won $400,000 from the Daily Mail for their lies, no one other than Moroccan media reported on it.  And she wasnt the only one this happened to- a young Palestinian also had his photo used by the media and was called a "Terrorist" in Paris.... yet hed never left the refugee camp in Jordan where he lives.

http://www.marocpress.com/en/moroccoworldnews/article-45981.html

Its all LIES and Propaganda.  So Please, next time you see a "news story" going viral on social media.... take a step back and REALLY LOOK AT IT.

Do your OWN Research!!  Dont take anyones opinion as fact (not even mine).

And remember:  The US, British, and EU governments have ADMITTED to using Social media to run Psyops, and to having paid "trolls" and "shills" all over Facebook and Twitter et al, to do their dirty work!!!

Start to Finish

Thank you Cocoa!

From May 2013 to February 2014, a cycle is complete.  Gingers first calf, little Cocoa, was born here and lived an easy life.  He was able to grow fat on his moms milk for six months then enjoy any array of alfalfa, vegis, pumpkins, and grain.  He was able to run and jump, sniff and investigate like any calf should. He slept most of the day like babies do and enjoyed many a scratch behind the ears.

Then when he started to grow up he was even able to express some of his manhood and bully us around a bit.  (The poor goats got bullied around alot!) And at a certain point when he was eating the same amount as his mom and when he was getting just too big to handle safely (with those horns of his), it was time for him to go.

We knew from the start that Cocoas destiny would be to fill the freezer.  Since we dont eat meat it would not be ours. And when all was said and done the whole scenario could not have worked out better. A friend purchased him, picked him up in her trailer, brought him to the slaughter house and then the butcher.

This friend of ours happens to be extremely particular about where her meat comes from and feels its important to face the animals she will eat.  So she sat with Cocoa to the end and watched the complete process to make sure it was as humane a possible. She was even kind enough to bring us back some of the innards for our compost pile so a part of Cocoa could be incorporated into the soil where he was born.

We saved Cocoas beautiful hide for salting and preserving as well.  We say farewell to Cocoa who gave us our first amazing experiences with calf rearing. He was sweet, gentle and of course very stubborn. We are all grateful for the gifts he has given us.

Every part of Cocoa was used.  He was split between four families, meaning he will feed and nourish fifteen people.  Just in case any of you are considering buying a whole animal for meat to share or just for your own family, here is a cost comparison analysis of the beef purchase from the buyer, I thought it was interesting to see the breakdown.  Cocoa was eight months old and approximately 700 lbs.

Compared to a 6 month subscription from Marin Sun Farms
 (adjusted for weight differences)
more steak--102%
less roasts--32%
less hamburger--15%
more bones--100%
more offal--100%

cost savings of meat per pound (excluding offal and bones)--36%
total cost savings--33%
final cost per pound of meat (excluding offal and bones)--$5.20

pounds of meat each + 1/4 of the bones and various cuts of offal--46.26

And now, all is quiet here on the farm.  Are you are curious about Ginger??  We have been watching her closely. She seems to have had her few days of wondering and most likely mourning but with all the green grass coming up its business as usual.

The ponic system 3 months in!

Collard green BIIG

Tomato and pepper seedlings
It has now been 3 months that the ponic system has been build. In these first 3 months I have lost a few plants, but also harvested a few parsley leaves. This all time the system has run on compost tea and ammonia. The plants seem fine, but a few are not as green as one would expect, but it is indoor, in the middle of the winter, with some artificial lighting that may not be sufficient.

During the start up of the system, the pH decreased once nitrification was efficient, but the pH increased after that, since there was no source of additional ammonia. I therefore started to add some ammonia, which keeps the pH around 7 as it is alkaline. A few weeks ago I increase the amount of ammonia I add so in the last week, I didnt add any as ammonia was building up in the water. In consequence, the pH has dropped a bit.

I have started to measure leaf length and leaf number, and overall, leaf number has increased in each plant, leaf length has increased a bit, but has stopped for some. I suppose it reached its optimal length.

I guess things are "growing forward" and the 2 collard greens are getting quite sizable (at least bigger than I expected).

Last night on Transpicuous News, I spoke about the latest developments in Greece and their new Slavery.   This is the link to the transcription to the first interview that former Finance Minister for Greece, Yanis Varofakis gave after his resignation.  He has some very interesting things to say and reading between the lines opens up some VERY interesting pieces of the puzzle to scrutinize.

http://www.newstatesman.com/world-affairs/2015/07/yanis-varoufakis-full-transcript-our-battle-save-greece

Below is Varoufakis latest post, and it is a damning piece of transparency (of a sort) against the Troika of Slavers.

The Euro-Summit ‘Agreement’ on Greece – annotated by Yanis Varoufakis

The Euro Summit statement (or Terms of Greece’s Surrender – as it will go down in history) follows, annotated by yours truly. The original text is untouched with my notes confined to square brackets (and in red). Read and weep… [For a pdf copy click here.]

Euro Summit Statement Brussels, 12 July 2015

The Euro Summit stresses the crucial need to rebuild trust with the Greek authorities [i.e. the Greek government must introduce new stringent austerity directed at the weakest Greeks that have already suffered grossly] as a pre- requisite for a possible future agreement on a new ESM programme [i.e. for a new extend-and-pretend loan].
In this context, the ownership by the Greek authorities is key [i.e. the Syriza government must sign a declaration of having defected to the troika’s ‘logic’], and successful implementation should follow policy commitments.
A euro area Member State requesting financial assistance from the ESM is expected to address, wherever possible, a similar request to the IMF This is a precondition for the Eurogroup to agree on a new ESM programme. Therefore Greece will request continued IMF support (monitoring and financing) from March 2016 [i.e. Berlin continues to believe that the Commission cannot be trusted to ‘police’ Europe’s own ‘bailout’ programs].
Given the need to rebuild trust with Greece, the Euro Summit welcomes the commitments of the Greek authorities to legislate without delay a first set of measures [i.e. Greece must subject itself to fiscal waterboarding, even before any financing is offered]. These measures, taken in full prior agreement with the Institutions, will include:
By 15 July
  • the streamlining of the VAT system [i.e. making it more regressive, through rate rises that encourage more VAT evasion]and the broadening of the tax base to increase revenue [i.e. dealing a major blow at the only Greek growth industry – tourism].
  • upfront measures to improve long-term sustainability of the pension system as part of a comprehensive pension reform programme [i.e. reducing the lowest of the low of pensions, while ignoring that the depletion of pension funds’ capital due to the 2012 troika-designed PSI and the ill effects of low employment & undeclared paid labour].
  • the safeguarding of the full legal independence of ELSTAT [i.e. the troika demands complete control of the way Greece’s budget balance is computed, with a view to controlling fully the magnitude of austerity it imposes on the government.]
  • full implementation of the relevant provisions of the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union, in particular by making the Fiscal Council operational before finalizing the MoU and introducing quasi-automatic spending cuts in case of deviations from ambitious primary surplus targets after seeking advice from the Fiscal Council and subject to prior approval of the Institutions [i.e. the Greek government, which knows that the imposed fiscal targets will never be achieved under the imposed austerity, must commit to further, automated austerity as a result of the troika’s newest failures.]
By 22 July
  • the adoption of the Code of Civil Procedure, which is a major overhaul of procedures and arrangements for the civil justice system and can significantly accelerate the judicial process and reduce costs [i.e. foreclosures, evictions and liquidation of thousands of homes and businesses who are not in a position to keep up with their mortgages/loans.]
  • the transposition of the BRRD with support from the European Commission.
Immediately, and only subsequent to legal implementation of the first four above-mentioned measures as well as endorsement of all the commitments included in this document by the Greek Parliament, verified by the Institutions and the Eurogroup, may a decision to mandate the Institutions to negotiate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) be taken [i.e. The Syriza government must be humiliated to the extent that it is asked to impose harsh austerity upon itself as a first step towards requesting another toxic bailout loan, of the sort that Syriza became internationally famous for opposing.]
This decision would be taken subject to national procedures having been completed and if the preconditions of Article 13 of the ESM Treaty are met on the basis of the assessment referred to in Article 13.1. In order to form the basis for a successful conclusion of the MoU, the Greek offer of reform measures needs to be seriously strengthened to take into account the strongly deteriorated economic and fiscal position of the country during the last year [i.e. the Syriza government must accept the lie that it, and not the asphyxiation tactics of the creditors, caused the sharp economic deterioration of the past six months – the victim is being asked to take the blame by the on behalf of the villain.]
The Greek government needs to formally commit to strengthening their proposals [i.e. to make them more regressive and more inhuman] in a number of areas identified by the Institutions, with a satisfactory clear timetable for legislation and implementation, including structural benchmarks, milestones and quantitative benchmarks, to have clarity on the direction of policies over the medium-run. They notably need, in agreement with the Institutions, to:
  • carry out ambitious pension reforms [i.e. cuts] and specify policies to fully compensate for the fiscal impact of the Constitutional Court ruling on the 2012 pension reform [i.e. cancel the Court’s decision in favour of pensioners] and to implement the zero deficit clause [i.e. cut by 85% the secondary pensions that the Syriza government fought tooth and nail to preserve over the past five months] or mutually agreeable alternative measures [i.e. find ‘equivalent’ victims] by October 2015;
  • adopt more ambitious product market reforms with a clear timetable for implementation of all OECD toolkit I recommendations [i.e. the recommendations that the OECD has now renounced after having re-designed these reforms in collaboration with the Syriza government], including Sunday trade, sales periods, pharmacy ownership, milk and bakeries, except over-the-counter pharmaceutical products, which will be implemented in a next step, as well as for the opening of macro-critical closed professions (e.g. ferry transportation). On the follow-up of the OECD toolkit-II, manufacturing needs to be included in the prior action;
  • on energy markets, proceed with the privatisation of the electricity transmission network operator (ADMIE), unless replacement measures can be found that have equivalent effect on competition, as agreed by the Institutions [i.e. ADMIE will be sold off to specific foreign vested interests at the behest of the Institutions.]
  • on labour markets, undertake rigorous reviews and modernisation of collective bargaining [i.e. to make sure that no collective bargaining is allowed], industrial action [i.e. that must be banned] and, in line with the relevant EU directive and best practice, collective dismissals [i.e. that should be allowed at the employers’ whim], along the timetable and the approach agreed with the Institutions [i.e. the Troika decides.]
On the basis of these reviews, labour market policies should be aligned with international and European best practices, and should not involve a return to past policy settings which are not compatible with the goals of promoting sustainable and inclusive growth [i.e. there should be no mechanisms that waged labour can use to extract better conditions from employers.]
  • adopt the necessary steps to strengthen the financial sector, including decisive action on non-performing loans [i.e. a tsunami of foreclosures is ante portas] and measures to strengthen governance of the HFSF and the banks [i.e. the Greek people who maintain the HFSF and the banks will have precisely zero control over the HFSF and the banks.], in particular by eliminating any possibility for political interference especially in appointment processes. [i.e. except the political interference of the Troika.] On top of that, the Greek authorities shall take the following actions:
  • to develop a significantly scaled up privatisation programme with improved governance; valuable Greek assets will be transferred to an independent fund that will monetize the assets through privatisations and other means [i.e. an East German-like Treuhand is envisaged to sell off all public property but without the equivalent large investments that W. Germany put into E. Germany in compensation for the Treuhand disaster.] The monetization of the assets will be one source to make the scheduled repayment of the new loan of ESM and generate over the life of the new loan a targeted total of EUR 50bn of which EUR 25bn will be used for the repayment of recapitalization of banks and other assets and 50 % of every remaining euro (i.e. 50% of EUR 25bn) will be used for decreasing the debt to GDP ratio and the remaining 50 % will be used for investments [i.e. public property will be sold off and the pitiful sums will go toward servicing an un-serviceable debt – with precisely nothing left over for public or private investments.] This fund would be established in Greece and be managed by the Greek authorities under the supervision of the relevant European Institutions [i.e. it will be nominally in Greece but, just like the HFSF or the Bank of Greece, it will be controlled fully by the creditors.] In agreement with Institutions and building on best international practices, a legislative framework should be adopted to ensure transparent procedures and adequate asset sale pricing, according to OECD principles and standards on the management of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) [i.e. the Troika will do what it likes.]
  • in line with the Greek government ambitions, to modernise and significantly strengthen the Greek administration, and to put in place a programme, under the auspices of the European Commission, for capacity-building and de-politicizing the Greek administration [i.e. Turning Greece into a democracy-free zone modelled on Brussels, a form of supposedly technocratic government, which is politically toxic and macro-economically inept] A first proposal should be provided by 20 July after discussions with the Institutions. The Greek government commits to reduce further the costs of the Greek administration [i.e. to reduce the lowest wages while increasing a little the wages some of the Troika-friendly apparatchiks], in line with a schedule agreed with the Institutions.
  • to fully normalize working methods with the Institutions, including the necessary work on the ground in Athens, to improve programme implementation and monitoring [i.e. The Troika strikes back and demands that the Greek government invite it to return to Athens as Conqueror – the Carthaginian Peace in all its glory.] The government needs to consult and agree with the Institutions on all draft legislation in relevant areas with adequate time before submitting it for public consultation or to Parliament [i.e. Greek Parliament must, again, after five months of short-lived independence, become an appendage of the Troika – passing translated legislation mechanistically.] The Euro Summit stresses again that implementation is key, and in that context welcomes the intention of the Greek authorities to request by 20 July support from the Institutions and Member States for technical assistance, and asks the European Commission to coordinate this support from Europe;
  • With the exception of the humanitarian crisis bill, the Greek government will reexamine with a view to amending legislations that were introduced counter to the February 20 agreement by backtracking on previous programme commitments or identify clear compensatory equivalents for the vested rights that were subsequently created [i.e. In addition to promising that it will no longer legislative autonomously, the Greek government will retrospectively annul all Bills it passed over the past five months.]
The above-listed commitments are minimum requirements to start the negotiations with the Greek authorities. However, the Euro Summit made it clear that the start of negotiations does not preclude any final possible agreement on a new ESM programme, which will have to be based on a decision on the whole package (including financing needs, debt sustainability and possible bridge financing) [i.e. self-flagellate, impose further austerity upon an economy crushed by austerity, and then we shall see whether the Eurogroup will grave you with another toxic, unsustainable loans.]
The Euro Summit takes note of the possible programme financing needs of between EUR 82 and 86bn, as assessed by the Institutions [i.e. the Eurogroup conjured up a huge number, well above what is necessary, in order to signal the debt restructuring is out and that debt bondage ad infinitum is the name of the game.] It invites the Institutions to explore possibilities to reduce the financing envelope, through an alternative fiscal path or higher privatisation proceeds [i.e. And, yes, it may possible that pigs will fly.] Restoring market access, which is an objective of any financial assistance programme, lowers the need to draw on the total financing envelope [i.e. which is something the creditors will do their utmost to avoid, e.g. by ensuring that Greece will only enter the ECB’s quantitative easing program in 2018, once quantitative easing is… over.]
The Euro Summit takes note of the urgent financing needs of Greece which underline the need for very swift progress in reaching a decision on a new MoU: these are estimated to amount to EUR 7bn by 20 July and an additional EUR 5bn by mid August [i.e. Extend and Pretend gets another spin.] The Euro Summit acknowledges the importance of ensuring that the Greek sovereign can clear its arrears to the IMF and to the Bank of Greece and honour its debt obligations in the coming weeks to create conditions which allow for an orderly conclusion of the negotiations. The risks of not concluding swiftly the negotiations remain fully with Greece [i.e. Once more, demanding that the victim takes all the blame in behalf of the villain.] The Euro Summit invites the Eurogroup to discuss these issues as a matter of urgency.
Given the acute challenges of the Greek financial sector, the total envelop

Compost Worms

Compost Screen...
Made an alteration to the compost screen by installing a larger gauge (right) mesh as the smaller gauge (left) was clogging up far to much which made the process rather long... I screened 3 of the drums yesterday & the end product still comes out fairly fine with no large "clumps"... This makes it great for breaking up the soil structure in the beds... I also think that it will make great bedding for the worm farms...
I am going to screen the next batch of manure before I add it to the barrel to see if I can get a more consistent "cooking" of the blend... Being horse manure Im not to worried about burning the plants more so trying to cook any worm drench out that the horses may have been medicated with that can kill our little fellas... It is also a good time to add the Blood n Bone & cracker dust to help feed the bacteria that aid in the process...

Worm Farm...
The old farm has had a composted horse manure blend in it for a month now & was harvested today...  We got at lest double the amount of worms back out of there compared to what was added as well as many, MANY more eggs than we could of anticipated... It took about a month for them  to "work through" the compost so was most impressed with that...

We came across something we have never seen before so made a clip (sorry guys)  as well...

A batch of compost blend that I screened yesterday was added to the farm & the ½ barrel we found a while back... A makeshift cover has gone on the ½ barrel for now but that should be remedied during the week... I think we will be putting all the composted horse manure through the worm farms from now on & the big blue barrel can be the food scraps...

Have a great one all...

Water Chestnut crop update

A look at the water chestnut crop for this year.. Third time lucky as the first 2 attempts were dismal failures..
The first went into the bathtub pond & we think the leachate from the bucket was making the fish ill so pulled it out..
The second attempt was with buckets placed into drums full of water.. That wasnt exactly a stunning success either with the soil becoming rather acidic..
Third attempt was the easy "toss them in a box & let them grow" method & it appears to have done the best so far... Funny that ;)
Think they will give us a few to eat & will be setting some aside for next years planting for certain..

Good evening everyone!  Here is the Archive Video from last Monday nights Roundtable Discussion.   While I didnt get to participate for the first hour due to my internet mysteriously disappearing about 1 minute into the show- leaving me with a frozen face that is truly hysterical, lol- I managed to get back onto the show for the last half of the discussion.

Lisa and I were joined by Thahoketoteh of the Kanionke:haka- or as corporate Canada says: the Mohawk Nation .   We had a really good conversation about Canadas "Truth and Reconciliation" report, the genocide of Canadas First Nations, and the corporate cover up of the truth of our Canadian history.

Thahoketoteh writes for The Mohawk News and is a voice for The People, telling the background history, and laying out the agendas of the corporate governments, and "The Crown".

Has been a tad warm here over the past week but nowhere near as bad as some of the southern states.. The garden worms chooks & fish have pulled through just fine with only one casualty (daughters pennyroyal) so happy about that..

Now the weather has cooled off a bit I will be planting out some seedlings & tackling some odd jobs to get the patch ready for Autumn.. Will be pruning the rest of the Chinese elm & some of the mango them running it through the mulcher... This will be mixed with some horse manure & left to compost a bit.. It will eventually become Autumns top up mulch for the beds...

On Mondays One People Discussion, Lisa and I dug into several topics, starting with the timeline/dimensional/ jumps that we keep seeing.  Those "Mandela Effects" pieces just keep coming to our attention, faster and bigger and less ignorable. lol.

Below is the Archive Video from the November 2 2015 show.

BE SURE to join us for this weeks show cause WOW!!!!  We have a lot to talk about on this subject as a whole lot more interesting pieces fell into place during several discussions in the UnFuckers Unite Facebook page over the past few days!!

.... and we have a little experiment we are going to run- a sort of "quantum PIN" to create with everyone, to see if we can perhaps track what the hell is going on!

The parsley and the small collard greens

Things seem to be going well in the vertical farm, expept the parlsey, I made the mistake of plugging the extra light for the all day on friday, and when i came back in the evening, a couple of the leaves looked dried up ... Also, It overall seem to not be as green anymore- I though maybe not enough light- but it could be also anot enough nitrate. But today there is a new leaf growing on it, so it probably will be good.

The green onions are growing nicely and this growth has attracted the lovely kitty who palyed with it. have transferred poted plants on the window seal so the cat does not have acess to it anymore.

Given the nice growth of the collard greens (and green onions) I decided to count the number of leaves and the size of the biggest leaf just for the heck of it. The longest green onion leaf is just below 11 inches (30 cm) long, the longest collard greens is 2 inches (6 cm), and the parsley is 7 inches (17.7cm). Each of the 4 green onion has 3 leaves, the parsley has 9 leaves, and the biggest collard green has 9 leaves. I took a few pictures of the plants to get an idea of the progression.

The small collard greens - pulled out to show the small roots growing out of the stem.

The bigger collard greens, with plenty of leaves growing from it.
A view of the whole teaponic system.

On the tea" side of the things, this week using 1.5 cups of worm compost for 2 cups of water, it seems that I got some traces of nitrates. Given the color of the tea, I really have to give a try at the stips style tests. But see the picture below, it when from a dark brown to a  "redder" dark brown after the incubation. I think it could be the apparition of some of the red of the API kit that changed the color this way, indicating that therre is some sufficient nitrate to change the color. I will get a set of test strips for next weeks tea and update.
The systems ammonia keeps showing traces (what i add) but it does not accumulate - showing that is really is cycle. Also Nitrate do not seem to accumulate either, they have been indetectable since thier "diseaperance "from the water a few weeks back, after the system had fully cycled.

Operation Worm rescue

Got a bit over zealous with making up a batch of worm food this week.... In my attempt to give the little fellas a treat of bread, which they love by the way, Koo & I added to much to the Worm Slushie... As a result the Slushie started to ferment in the Farm & generate a lot of heat....
All the offending Slushie was removed then some Sugar cane mulch was added...
This was mixed around with the castings & worms in the top tray in an attempt to cool the little fellas down.... The shade cloth that is being used to collect any stray worms or castings dropping through to the worm juice collection tray did a great job... A lot of the Worms had retreated there to get relief from the heat... there was also a decent amount of castings there that will come in handy potting out the Caped Gooseberries & Strawberries into their new Barrels/pots...

I couldnt get over the amount of worms that are in the farm... We started up the farm using a 1000 Worm Starter Pack  from Worm Affair that was purchased at a local hardware store.. I scooped out about 4 cupped hand fulls during the rescue from the top tray + the poor fellas left behind that should find their way to safety in the tray below & then there are those that found refuge in the bottom tray... I guesstimate that there is over 2kg left in the farm + those that now call all the Garden beds home... That is a big increase from the 250 grams worth we started with...

Weather permitting, a start shall be made on the new worm farm this weekend... It shall be made from a large 55 gallon Barrel & should allow us to add a lot more food thereby creating a lot more castings for the garden... We have stopped feeding the worms that were introduced into the Wicking garden beds... They appear to be increasing in numbers just by feeding on the organic matter that we turn through the beds after every crop is harvested... Digging around in a few of the beds this week has uncovered a fair few small to large worms which to me means that they are breeding & happy in them....

Well Better get to it.....
Have a great one all.....

Thats it! The system at the Bronx Writing Academy is completed!

In the past 3 weeks we have been building 2 hydroponic system using mainly re-purposed material with a group of student at the Bronx Writing Academy. We had a slow start the first week with 6 students in the classroom, but the students are enjoying it, so each week there was a couple more students joining the class. This week, we had 10 out of the 12 students who signed up in the apprenticeship!
In the past 4 weeks, we have learned how to use some tools (hand drill, screw diver, woodworking square, ect ...), we also learned the basic ideas that explains how an hydro/aquaponic system works, and how plants use water, CO2 and sunlight to produce sugars. We also learned about Ron Findley, a Los Angelino who started to grow food on sidewalks and explain his story in a TED talk.

The students have build these system (with guidance of course) and today they where pretty exited to see that we were going to be done by the end of the day. We installed hooks to hold the grow towers, we unpacked and cut tubing for the pump, installed the pump, and planted lettuce, cilantro and parsley seedlings. We finally tested the system and adjusted the pipes to make sure water was going into both towers. Some of the student took their cellphones out and started
filming the system! We then added the fertilizers to the systems!
By the end, we were ready to get the systems to the roof. there it went !

Only one thing is not 100% great, the school decided to not allow the system to be on the roof, after we set it there, I will have to go and remove it on Friday. Instead, the system will be put in a classroom used for small meetings, as close to the window as possible. The window is oriented to the west. I am yet to know whether we will be allowed to have supplemental lighting for It.

We will see how many of the seedlings need to be replaced ! (on Saturday it was snowing in NYC so I am not sure the seedlings had liked that.

*** I will add some pics of the students working as soon as I processed the video to extract a few snapshots.

Seeding time !!

pHad a nice quite day today....
Made some up some Dairy spread this morning.... Its easy to make & we know what goes into it...
I use a Ratio of 2:1 Butter & Rice Bran Oil... It works out heaps cheaper than buying the "spreadable" butters & is a lot better to cook with as you get the butter flavour but it doesnt burn like normal butter due to the oil content... Taste great on sandwiches & toast as well....
Method : Just add the softened Butter to a mixing bowl & beat or whisk with Electric Beaters/Stand Mixer... When the butter is all smooth & creamy add the Rice Bran Oil a bit at a time.... I keep  Whisking it until it becomes pale & increases in volume.... I store it in decor 500ml containers & freeze until needed....
Costing :
1Kg butter $4.58
500ml R/Bran oil   $1.63 (4L for $13 at Woolies on sale & I have a small stockpile..)
This works out to be  $0.42 per 100g or $2.10 for a 500g tub....
The closest everyday cheapest equivalent is Aldi at $2.99 for 500g....
We dont like the Aldi brand due to it having Canola oil in it & that it spits everywhere when using it in cooking due to the water content.... Have been making this version of Dairy spread for a few years now after modifying a Recipe we found on the Simple Savings Site....
This post has been copied & pasted onto our new Blog,   Bits Around the House..

In the Garden....
Put up the Trellis for the Cucumbers & Climbing Beans today as well as planting out the 3 vacant beds....

In Bed # 6 we planted,
2 rows of All Season Carrots from Eden Seeds
Around the outside of the bed we planted,
Red Toga  Spring Onions from Johnsons Seeds,
White Lisbon Spring Onion from Hortico....
In Bed # 7 we planted,
Blue lake Climbing bean x3
Marketmore Cucumber x 2
Lebanese Cucumber x 2
Purple Top Milan Turnips x 24-30
All these seeds were from Eden Seeds.....
The Trellis runs the length of Bed # 7....

In Bed # 3 we planted,
Brown Beauty Bush Beans x 12
Cylindra Beetroot x 2 rows
Thai Green Eggplant x 2
Silverbeet Lucullus x 12
All these seeds were from Eden Seeds.....
Crimson Globe Beetroot  x 2 rows from Hortico

We are trying to use only old varieties of seed from the smaller seed suppliers as we try & save as many seeds from previous years as we can..... We have had great luck with Eden Seeds in the past & already have a couple of seeds saved from previous crops....
OH, & nearly forgot !!!! We bought a "long sweet Yellow" Capsicum seedling a few weeks ago & planted it out today In Bed # 1....

This weeks harvest....

Growing the Staples

Now that we are finally receiving the long awaited rain (hurray!!), the race is on to get winter chores done.  Weve been amending beds with manure, heavily mulching, building compost piles everywhere, and transplanting lots of starts from the green houses to the beds.  After going at this small farming business for almost four years now, we are honing in and getting organized.  Our seed list has narrowed as we have learned a thing or two about what we like to eat and preserve, what types of plants grow well here, and what we can plant that will give us a large yield with little energy input/water.

The changing climate and weather patterns are forcing us to rethink everything.  For us that means starting to establish our food forests and for annuals, keeping it simple.  Growing the staples (beans, potatoes, squash, brassicas, and eggs) can keep us well fed all year long. Of course well plant some of our other favorites, but the bulk will be these five.

Since runners beans are hardy, produce a large harvest that can be eaten fresh or dried, and can become perennials, there are big hopes to plant them all over the garden this year. Scarlet runners, painted ladies and many more varieties to climb the fences.

Yukon Gold is our preferred variety
Potatoes are probably the biggest crop we want to grow.  Our family consumes masses of them and with growing boys its always good to have some around as a base for a meal, especially when we are trying to cut back on wheat.  Plus they thrive here, our big dilemma is that the gophers love them as much as we do.  Were still searching for a solution to that problem.

Eggs are versatile, reliable, dont need refrigeration, and can be grown off the compost, extra vegis and waste products from our farm.  They are our main source of protein given half of us dont eat meat.  Every breakfast around here includes eggs with a variation of avocado and toast, porridge, or potatoes.

winter squash grows exceptionally well in our garden
A list of other crops that are easy and grow well for us in our soil and climate are zucchini, tomatoes, pumpkins, winter squash (Oregon Sweet Meat is our favorite), red and yellow onions, garlic, quinoa, amaranth, and artichokes.  Planting vegis that need more hydration near the grey water is key and well be dry farming tomatoes again this year. These rainy days are perfect for planning and dreaming of the garden to come....

Transpicuous New Years Report

Well my friends, the year has come to an end, with not so much of a bang... more of a whisper and a whimper it would seem.  While on the Surface the "News" has been devoid of anything even remotely interesting, in the back ground, while everyone was distracted by egg nog and leftover turkey sandwiches, there was a few very interesting things that almost slipped by unnoticed.

Today we look at the War between Canada and Denmark, the "real" space review that isnt, the Chinese question, and whether or not the Pentagon has any clue what they are doing.
